Race Rules
The purpose of the following rules is to insure that participants, their families and friends have the opportunity to either complete the race or cheer for others and have an enjoyable experience. As a sanctioned USA Triathlon event, these rules are recommended for safety reasons. These rules are not all inclusive. A complete list of UAST rules can be found at the link below. A Race Director may impose a penalty or disqualify anyone who does not comply.
Membership / Permit Requirements
All participants in events sanctioned by USA Triathlon must be members of USA Triathlon and be able to present a valid annual membership card or must purchase a USA Triathlon single event permit. If the participant does not have a current membership card to present at packet pickup, they will either need to purchase a single event permit or register as a member. Outside Assitance
Family members and friends are not permitted to assist participants during any part of the race. Volunteers are positioned throughout the course and are there to assist the children and insure the rules are followed for the safety and their well being.
Course
Each participant must complete the entire prescribed course in order to be eligible to receive age level awards. Volunteers and signage are available throughout the course, but participants bear the responsibility for being familiar with the course.
Transition Area
ONLY PARTICIPANTS and volunteers will be allowed in the transition area. All equipment must be placed in designated area before the transition area closes. All athletes must be present when their equipment is removed from the transition area and the athlete’s number must match their bike number. Bicycles must be mounted and dismounted at the designated point, which will be clearly indicated and manned by volunteers.
Swim
Any stroke is allowed. There is no disqualification for style or stopping. The swim course is closely monitored and volunteers will be at the lanes to help the children. Children should have the goal to swim the distance of their age group.
Bike
An approved helmet (ANSI, CSPC, SNELL or ASTM standards – see Safety Page or USAT Rules for further explanation) must be worn and chin straps secured and buckled before leaving the transition area and remain buckled until the athlete returns their bike to the transition spot. All bicycles must be in a safe condition. Handlebars and stem must be fashioned to prevent any danger. All handlebar ends must be solidly plugged to lessen the possibility of injury. There must be one working brake on each of the two wheels. It is the parent's responsibility to see that bikes and helmets are in good working order. Riders must ride the full distance of their specified bike course. Riders must follow traffic laws.
Run
Participants must run or walk the complete running course. Each racer will be provided with a numbered bib and some safety pins. The bibs must be worn on the front of the body during the run and must be clearly visible when the racer crosses the finish line.
Sportsmanship
Infraction by participants or parents of any of the rules or exhibition of unsportsmanlike conduct will result in disqualification. This includes the use of profanity or rudeness before, during, or after the race.
Race Number
Race numbers shall be plainly displayed at all times and maintain the race number the start, on the course, in the transition area and at the finish. Race numbers shall be clearly marked on the athlete’s body, as well as placing a sticker on the front of the bike helmet. Children must have a race number pinned to their shirt and worn during the bike and run portion of the course. The numbers are assigned to the participant for identification purposes and are not to be traded.
Chip Timing
Chip timing will be used to time each Athlete. The chip must be attached firmly to the ankle before the racer completes the race, and kept on throughout the entire event. At the finish line volunteers will collect the chips after the athlete crosses the finish line. A return fee will be imposed for any chip lost or not returned at the end of the event.
Unfair Advantage
No participant shall use his body, head, arms, or legs to gain an unfair advantage, or to push, pull, hold, strike, or force through one or more participants. Participants are not permitted to draft and should keep at least three bike lengths between them and the cyclist in front.
Abandoned Equipment
No participant shall leave any equipment or personal gear on the race course.
Illegal Equipment
All participants are prohibited to wear or carry at anytime during the race any headset, radio, headphones, or personal audio device. No participant shall utilize any glass bottles or glass containers at any time during the event or bring any glass container into the transition area.
Weather / Cancelation / Refund Policy
The race will take place rain or shine. For safety reasons, Pro-One Fitness, LLC reserves the right to modify or cancel a race due to weather
conditions. When weather is severe or jeopardizes the safety of the athletes, all precautions will be made. Due to expenses, there will be no
refunds if the race is modified or canceled due to weather or other safety hazards. There are no refunds or transfers of registration for this event.
All rules are subject to the interpretation of the race officials, whose decision will be final.
USAT
